No one really knows how Kate MIddleton is doing as she undergoes preventative chemotherapy after her cancer diagnosis in February. The public was informed about her illness in mid-March after the Princess of Wales released a candid video. Since then, though, updates have come few and far between.
In the built up to the reveal of her caner diagnosis there were all manner of conspiracy theories surrounding the Princess. And although there hasn’t been any official update on her health, Prince William has spoken about his wife a few times. This past Wednesday, he gave the public a new morsel of information to chew on.
Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis announcement in March left royal fans worldwide in shock.
Kate Middleton revealed cancer diagnosis in emotional video
In an emotional video recorded in the Windsor Gardens, the Princess of Wales revealed details about the diagnosis and what will happen moving forward.
“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful; however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore, advised that I should undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” Kate said.
“This of course, came as a huge shock and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them and to reassure them that I’m going to be okay.”
Kate has withdrawn from royal duties since last year. As stands, one knows when the Princess will return to work, and even though she seemed to put all her cards on the table with her brave aforementioned video, speculation about her health continues to swirl on the internet.
Royal source says Kate Middleton “may not appear in public for the rest of the year.”
Speaking with the Daily Beast, a royal source said that Kate’s diary remains “empty” for the rest of the year.
“Lots of people involved in planning need to know what all the principals are doing a long way in advance,” the source said.
“I am told that Kate’s diary for this year is empty. There is nothing planned. She may not appear in public for the rest of the year.”
An alleged friend of Kate and William, meanwhile, told the outlet that the Princess of Wales is prioritizing her mental health above all else.
“The key thing for her now is avoiding any kind of stress or anxiety and just getting on with the business of getting better,” the insider added. “They will bail out and be off to Sandringham the moment school breaks up.”
At the time of writing, the video in which Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis is the only time she has discussed her health in public.
Conspiracy theories ran rampant online during the days preceding the video’s release, and a source told the Daily Beast that a new video could be in the works.
“I would not rule out another video message updating the country on her health,” the insider said. “That proved to be a very effective way of keeping the conspiracy theorists at bay.”
By all accounts, Kate has spent most of her time recovering at Adelaide Cottage. At Easter, she and her family spent some time at their country home of Anmer Hall, far away from paparazzi and members of the public.
Kate MIddleton rumored to be “considering” Trooping the Colour appearance
And though she might feel well enough to take on certain royal duties, reports suggest that one condition must be met before she returns.
“This is a clear commitment she has made that throughout her life of public service that this will be focus. That will continue when she returns to work. But we have been really clear that she needs the space and the privacy to recover right now. She will return to work when she has had the green light from doctors,” a royal aide told GB News.
While the Daily Mail reported last week that Kate Middleton is “considering” walking onto the balcony during the Trooping the Colour in mid-June, royal expert Angela Levin urged the Princess of Wales not to “rush her recovery.”
Reports have previously stated that Kate did some work on her projects from her hospital bed at the London Clinic as she recovered from surgery. Weeks ago, a spokesperson for Kate confirmed that she has been overseeing a project despite her preventative chemotherapy. Another senior royal aide described the Princess being a “driving force.”
Although Kate appears “keen” to be involved in projects close to her heart, Angela Levin projects it may be some time before we, the public, are afforded the opportunity to see her again.
“She needs boosting, we all miss her and want her back as soon as possible. She is working on her young children’s activities that try and help if they catch things while very young, you can save billions, not just millions, because they will know how to behave, how to be. And she’s very keen that that’s going ahead,” Levin told GB News.
Royal expert slams bombshell claim about Kate Middleton
The royal expert continued: “She’s read everything there, but she doesn’t mean that she’s coming back yet. But she is very thrilled with it. So we all have to wish that we do see her. We do miss her because she’s lovely and smiley and clever and all those things, and we hope she will come back. But it’s doubtful that she will come back until the end of the year.”
While Levin argues that Kate Middleton’s royal return might take some time, a royal source suggested to Us Weekly that the Princess of Wales “may never come back in the role that people saw her in before.”
The conspiracy theories surrounding her cancer diagnosis – as well as what really happened regarding the infamously ‘manipulated’ Mother’s Day picture she posted and later apologized for – have been ongoing for months.
As such, the bombshell claim in Us Weekly from the anonymous source can be interpreted as alarming. But one royal expert, Christopher Andersen, author of The King, says royal fans shouldn’t “not jump the gun.”
“Kate is undergoing cancer, and it’s perfectly understandable that she’s out of the picture for the moment,” Andersen told Fox. “There is no doubt in my mind that Kate will return to public life once she’s satisfied that she’s done everything her doctors have told her to do to defeat her illness.”
“Kate is all about her family, but she is also all about duty to her country,” the expert continued.
“She is keenly aware of the roles she plays as Princess of Wales, the future queen, wife of a future king and mother to a future monarch. Kate didn’t spend 10 years waiting to land her prince so that she could eventually recede into the shadows.”
Prince William gives update on Kate Middleton’s recovery
Expert Angela Levin made a similar argument, adding that Kate could possibly become even more popular once she returns to royal duty.
At the same time, Levin took caution to add that it will be “difficult” for the Princess of Wales upon her return.
“….because if you’ve been quite alone or just with a very small number in your family for a while, to then burst out with hundreds, millions of people who want to see her and shout and cheer it will be difficult,” Levin told GB News.
“So she’s got to pace it. I think she will because she’s pacing things now. She doesn’t want to push herself too far, but I think that will be quite difficult for her.”
Thus far, Kate’s video revealing the cancer diagnosis is the only official update that has been given. Yet Prince William has given members of the public at least some insight into his wife’s recovery while on his various royal engagements.
The latest one came just days ago, when the future king met World War II veterans in Portsmouth, England, to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
One veteran asked William whether Kate was “getting any better.”
In response, William said, “Yes,” adding, “she would’ve loved to be here today.”
Prince William took on a significant portion of responsibility for the couple’s children when Kate spent 13 days at the London Clinic post-surgery. He was also forced to perform a number of royal duties outside of his regular schedule as he stepped in for his father, King Charles, who is also undergoing cancer treatment.
Prince William and Kate Middleton “closer than ever,” royal insider claims
In mid-April, William officially returned to royal duties, and many royal fans took the opportunity to wish Kate well when they met him.
Needless to say, this year has been challenging for William and Kate, as well as their three young children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. However, according to a royal insider, William and Kate have become “closer than ever”.
“The announcement that the royals won’t be able to work as much has been unexpected, but it will allow Kate and William to spend more time together,” a source told Us Weekly.
“Kate’s feeling strong enough to be very involved with the kids,” the insider added. “She’s been an active parent.”
