SP. Enzo Fernandez wife drops bombshell announcement amid Chelsea star’s struggles

Enzo Fernandez and his wife Valentina Cervantes have a son and a daughter together, but the 23-year-old Argentina and Chelsea star is set to go through a separation

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez and his wife Valentina Cervantes are going through a separation, the latter has confirmed.

Argentina international Fernandez and Cervantes have two children together, with their daughter born in 2020 and their son arriving last year. Announcing the separation on Instagram, Cervantes urged fans not to create conflict following the news.

“Enzo and I have decided to take some distance from each other today,” she wrote in an Instagram story. “But we will always be family, and we will support each other in everything. Because there are two children involved who need a lot of love from us.

“I know the person Enzo is and what an excellent father he is, as well as the heart he has. And that is enough for me. Please don’t try to create conflicts where there are none.”

According to reports in Argentina, Fernandez has told Cervantes he “Feels the need to experience the stage he skipped by choosing family early on.”. As such, the 23-year-old has reportedly expressed a desire to live alone.

Fernandez, who cost Chelsea £105million when he joined from Benfica in January 2023, has endured a tough campaign despite being added to the Blues’ leadership group. He captained the Blues in six of their first seven Premier League games, but has since lost his starting spot to Romeo Lavia.

Manager Enzo Maresca appeared frustrated by the Argentina international during Wednesday’s defeat at Newcastle, turning his back after Fernandez misplaced a pass to give Chelsea’s opponents a sight of goal. He was also outmuscled by Joelinton to set up a first-half chance for the Magpies, who ended up winning the game 2-0.

“I think [making 11 changes] worked if we analyse the performance, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said after the defeat. “If we analyse the result, then it didn’t work.

“But I think for 23 minutes, until their goal, we were in control of the game and didn’t concede anything. Then after the goal, we lost control for ten minutes, when we conceded the second goal, and then for the last ten minutes of the first half, we created two or three clear-cut chances when we unfortunately didn’t score and in the second half we were in control of the game.

“So I know the most important thing is the result but with the performance, we lost the game because of ten minutes and for the rest we were quite good.”
