Man Who Spotted Kate Middleton and Prince William for the First Time Since Surgery Speaks Out
The man who captured Kate Middleton walking with her husband, Prince William, for the first time since her abdominal surgery in January has spoken out about the encounter.
Nelson Silva, 40, was at the Windsor Farm Shop on Saturday afternoon when he spotted the royal couple near the bread section. It wasn’t until the woman turned her head that Silva realized he “knew” her.
He ended up standing behind the pair while they were in the meat section and witnessed them interacting with staff.
“I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but the staff seemed overwhelmed in a nice way. When I went to pay for my groceries, the girl at the counter was so shocked she could hardly breathe,” Silva told The Sun.
“Everyone in there was very excited. It was a really nice atmosphere.”
Silva, who claimed he had no idea “Kate was so much in the news,” then stepped outside and recorded a short video to share with his family in Portugal.
“I started recording as they [Kate and William] walked toward the car park. They just looked very happy and relaxed together,” he said. “William was obviously protective of Kate, and I quickly stopped recording because I didn’t want to make them uncomfortable.”
After sharing the clip with his family via WhatsApp, Silva said his relatives were astonished.
“They were like, ‘Oh my God, she’s alive! She hasn’t been seen since last year.’ I’m not really into gossip or celebrities—I prefer fishing and tending to my allotment.”

It was only after his family and a colleague pointed it out that Silva realized his video could help disprove rumors and conspiracy theories surrounding Middleton over the past few weeks.
“I feel for Kate. After seeing her, it really hit me—they’re just two human beings,” Silva said. “This is a mother who has had surgery, and people shouldn’t be talking about her like this.”
“The people saying nasty things and jumping on the bandwagon—they’re just doing it for likes. It’s very sad. I’ve had surgeries myself, so I know what recovery is like.”

Middleton’s last public appearance was on Christmas Day, just weeks before her planned surgery. At the time, Kensington Palace announced she wouldn’t return to public duties until Easter.
Rumors about her health and whereabouts quickly began to swirl, even after photos of Middleton emerged, including one for Mother’s Day.
Silva’s chance encounter, however, provides reassurance to the public. “Kate looks well, and she just wanted to take a walk with her husband. I’d say, ‘Let’s draw a line under it now.’”
