Commentator Tim Pool has filed a lawsuit against Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, alleging defamation and interference with his business. Pool, known for his popular political commentary and media ventures, made the announcement during his podcast, “Timcast IRL,” where he explained his decision to take legal action.
According to the lawsuit filed in West Virginia, Pool accused Harris’s campaign of publishing a false statement that damaged his reputation and adversely impacted his business operations. The statement in question reportedly accused Pool of promoting pro-Russian propaganda. Pool has denied these allegations and claims the Harris campaign acted in bad faith.
“Mr. Pool was damaged by the Harris Campaign’s bad faith misconduct previously described herein in addition to his expenditures for the prosecution of this action, which is necessary to clear Mr. Pool’s name and restore his reputation,” the lawsuit states.
The backdrop of this lawsuit involves accusations that Pool, along with other conservative influencers like Dave Rubin and Benny Johnson, were part of a disinformation campaign allegedly linked to Russian interests. Pool and his counterparts have been under scrutiny ever since the Biden administration accused Moscow of attempting to influence the upcoming election through U.S. influencers.
Pool and others have vehemently denied these claims, asserting that they are victims of a coordinated smear campaign. Pool specifically has faced accusations of working with a U.S. content creation company that allegedly received funding from Russian sources. In August the Justice Department claimed that Russian state media funneled $10 million to Tenet Media, a company where Pool worked. The firm, now closed, allegedly created propaganda favoring Russia, and its unknowing creators spread disinformation.
Pool’s lawsuit was prompted by a post on the KamalaHQ account—the official press account of Harris’s campaign—which featured a video clip of Pool speaking. “Trump operatives say their Project 2025 plan is to give Trump total, unchecked legal power so they can jail and execute those who don’t support Trump if he wins,” Kamala HQ wrote on X on August 31.
“Should Democrats be in jail? No question,” Pool asked on his podcast. “When Donald Trump gets elected should he start locking them up? No question. Should there be lists of Democrats that need to go to jail, one hundred percent. And the reason for that is they committed crimes.”
Pool’s lawsuit argues that Harris’s campaign engaged in defamation, which caused significant harm to his reputation and business. He claims that the campaign’s alleged statements were made with reckless disregard for the truth. Defamation suits often hinge on whether the plaintiff can prove that false statements were knowingly or recklessly spread, causing reputational harm.
Additionally, Pool accuses the Harris campaign of bad faith misconduct, implying that their actions were not just accidental but deliberately malicious. He is seeking damages, although the specific amount has not yet been disclosed.
Pool is not alone in his fight. Several prominent conservative influencers have spoken out in support of him, including Dave Rubin and Benny Johnson, both of whom have also faced accusations related to Russian disinformation. Rubin took to social media to denounce the allegations, calling them a political hit job intended to discredit conservative voices ahead of the 2024 election. The lawsuit signals growing tensions between commentators and establishment political figures that are likely to escalate as the election draws nearer.
