Daughter’s Heartfelt Letter Discovered After Her Passing – A Message of Love and Faith

What most teenagers dream of is growing up, pursuing their passions, traveling, and making lifelong memories with friends and family. Twelve-year-old Taylor Smith from Johnson City, Tennessee, was no different. She was a bright and enthusiastic young girl who loved spending time with her loved ones and was an avid fan of Doctor Who.

In April 2013, Taylor wrote a heartfelt letter to her future self, outlining her dreams and aspirations. She placed it inside a box in her room, marking it with a special instruction: “To be opened by Taylor Smith on April 12, 2023, only (unless said otherwise).”

A Life Cut Short Too Soon

Tragically, Taylor never got the chance to read her own letter. Just a few months after writing it, she passed away due to complications from a sudden onset of pneumonia. Her unexpected passing left her parents, Tim and Mary Ellen Smith, in unimaginable grief. Their vibrant and joyful daughter was gone far too soon.

As they sorted through her belongings, they stumbled upon the letter she had written to her future self. Deeply moved by her words, they decided to share it with the world, hoping her message would inspire and comfort others.

A Mother’s Tribute

Mary Ellen shared the letter online, expressing her emotions: “I can’t physically bring her back, but I’m so grateful that people have been inspired by her story.” Her words resonated with countless people who were touched by Taylor’s wisdom and faith at such a young age.

Taylor’s Letter to Herself

Below is the letter that Taylor wrote, revealing her deep thoughts, dreams, and unwavering faith:

Dear Taylor,

How’s life? Life is pretty simple right now (10 years in your past). I know I’m writing this early, but for you, it’s late. Congratulations on graduating high school! If you haven’t, keep pushing forward and get that diploma! Are we in college? If not, that’s okay too. We always have our reasons for the choices we make.

Don’t forget—it’s Allana’s 11th birthday today! Wow, 11 already? Right now, she’s just turned one! I couldn’t attend her party because I was on my first mission trip in Cranks, Kentucky. I’ve only been back for six days!

Speaking of, how’s your relationship with God? Have you prayed, worshipped, read the Bible, or taken time to serve? If not, stop what you’re doing and make it a priority. No matter where we are in life, it’s important. Remember, He sacrificed everything for us—a perfect and sinless life given for all.

Have you been on any more mission trips? Have you traveled outside the country yet? Taken a flight?

Is Doctor Who still on air? If not, what was the final regeneration? You should watch some Doctor Who! But later—finish reading your own words first!

Do you have your own place yet? If we’re in college, what’s our major? Right now, I dream of becoming a lawyer.

Have you been to Dollywood recently? Right now, their newest ride is the Wild Eagle—it’s amazing!

Also, I’m thinking of selling my iPad and getting an iPad Mini. By the way, don’t forget to tell your kids that we’re older than the tablet! I’ve attached a drawing of an iPad so you can show them.

Well, that’s all for now. But remember, it’s been 10 years since I wrote this. Life brings both good and bad times, and that’s just how it works. You have to keep moving forward.

Sincerely,
Taylor Smith
